Whatever your morning bathroom ritual, there is no way it's as impressive or detailed as the toilet rituals that surround the restroom and it's goings-on in Japan. A culture rich with tradition, we westerners often find amusement in their many cultural idiosynchracies: wacky gameshows, hello kitty, manga, robots, tentacle porn, vending machines filled with the panties of school girls. Let's also keep in mind that they lead the world in robotics and scientific development and sushi is nothing short of a gift to the world. Some of the stereotypes are over-emphasized unfairly but some are right on the money. And who are we to judge (North America is famous for sparay cheese and reality TV)? It's our differences that unite us. Great. So let's celebrate a wonderful new item to add to the list of what we might deem "bizarre" Japanese obsessions: a preoccupation with toilet culture. Yeah, they're pretty into it. And you know what? They make the best toilets in the world. Like next level space toilets. It's like pooping in a utopic future.
Japan considers the domestic bathroom the "face of the home", so it's typically kept in pristine condition. Bravo, the cleaner the better I say! Japan also has a $60 million dollar museum and a revered toilet god that is honored and worshipped with, umm, traditional offerings. yes, the offerings are precidely what you're thinking. Once again, differences uniting us. You do you Japan.
Marc talks all about it on today's News House.
