While you've probably encountered digital picture frames before, you probably don't have one in your house.
And given what's been available on the market so far, no one would blame you. Most of them are hideous, tiny, and come with fantastically complicated remote controls that are just begging to get lost in the first week that you own one. It's the type of disposable tech that you could barely be asked to pay the shipping for if it was available for free online. However, a new project on Kickstarter called Canviz hopes to make up for all these shortcomings all at once.
Canviz differentiates itself very quickly with a few really cool features: It can display GIFs, comes in an elegant wooden frame, and is available in 11x18-inch and 19x35-inch sizes. The beautiful display on Canviz features wide viewing angles, a full-HD resolution, and its own processor and drive space for storing pictures. When you want to change the image being displayed, you'll be able to use the included app to customize the screen however you wish.
Another interesting addition is the ability of Canviz to display contextual information when it's appropriate -- such as the weather in the morning, traffic information before you leave for work, and more. So whether you just plan to use it as a beautiful picture frame to display digital art that you find online or plan to take advantage of the more ambitious features the creators have planned, this looks like a really cool project, and one certainly worth supporting.
