Xbox Fitness first launched back in 2013 with the release of the Xbox One, and it features popular trainers like Jillian Michaels, Tony Horton of P90X, Tracy Anderson, and Shaun T of Insanity. You can of course get content from these guys elsewhere, but Xbox Fitness takes things to another level by making full use of the Kinect 2.0 Sensor. Xbox Fitness utilizes the sensor to measure your heart rate, by using its infrared camera to track bloodflow underneath the skin. It also keeps track of how closely you follow all of the movements the trainers are doing. It can tell if your form is off, or you’re not utilizing your muscles as much as you should, and it will give you advice on how to correct it during your session.
If you already own an Xbox One and have tried P90X or Insanity before, Xbox Fitness is a pretty easy sell. There’s really no reason not to check it out. But the platform provides a pretty interesting incentive for people who have never gone the at-home-workout route before to try it as well. It’s a peek into what we hope the future of fitness will look like - it’s fun and interactive, but also uses technology to give you hard data about your progress. Overall we’re very excited to see what the Xbox folks come out with in the future to fully utilize the power of the Kinect sensor.
