Here we go, Cuba is all about sharing its tastiest dish, the Cuban Sandwich, aka, the Cubano. We went to Cafe Cubano to find out exactly why cuban cuisine is coming back in a big way. We're also going to show you how to make a classic cuban sandwich, pro tip: it's super easy.
Here's what you'll need:
-Pork shoulder
-Onions
-Garlic
-Pork Rub
-Cuban bread (Baguette is fine)
-Sliced ham
-Mustard
-Swiss cheese
-Pickle
-Chicken stock
Let's get this show on the road, first up, chop up 1 onion and 3-4 cloves of garlic, then toss it into a slow cooker. Use your favorite pork rub on the pork shoulder and add that to the cooker along with 3-4 cups of low sodium chicken stock. Now cook that beast on low for 8-10 hours. Once it's ready, pull it out and discard the stock, onions, and garlic. Shred the meat to make pulled pork. Boom.
Time to make the sandwich. Inside your bun, layer the mustard, pulled pork, pickle, ham, and swiss cheese. Place a grill pan over medium high heat, then wrap a brick in foil. Brush melted butter all over the bun and place it on the grill. Take the brick and place it on top of the sandwich to squish it. Once golden brown, flip it over and repeat on the other side. Once the cheese is melted take it off the heat, slice it up and serve warm.
