Transcription:
Muhammad Ali won a lot of fights
But you won’t believe what he lost…
As an amateur he won six Kentucky Golden Gloves titles, two national Golden Gloves titles, and an Amateur Athletic Union National Title
Impressive...
All we ever won was a blue ribbon for participation
Ali's amateur record was 100 wins with only five losses
And he punctuated his amateur career at the 1960 Summer Olympics in Rome
He took home the Light Heavyweight gold medal by beating Zbigniew Pietrzykowski
Try spelling that name after you’ve been hit in the head by Ali
Ali treasured his gold medal and wore it all the time
Even while sleeping
But shortly after his return from Rome he was refused service at a restaurant because of his race
He furiously stormed out of the small diner and threw his prized gold medal into the Ohio River
And the gold medal was gone forever…
Causing perhaps the most historic loss of his career
Ali was honored again with a replacement medal at the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta
A testament to his legacy and respect that the world has for The Greatest
