In 1983 elite downhill skier Steve Podborski wrote to the Canadian Ski Association about the Export 'A' Cup, saying he didn't want to be associated with the promotion of smoking, cigarettes or tobacco of any kind.

In an interview with George in advance of the 2014 Sochi Olympics, the Canadian Olympic Team's chef de mission explained what taking that stand meant.
