Real Madrid narrowly fell to defeat in Jeddah in the Spanish Super Cup final against Barcelona (Barcelona 3-2 Real Madrid). After an evenly-matched first half hour, the Clásico exploded into life towards the end of the first half, with Raphinha, Vini Jr., Robert Lewandowski and Gonzalo all scoring to leave the match tied at the interval. Goalkeepers Thibaut Courtois and Joan García both made fine saves after the break before a deflected shot from Raphinha edged Barcelona ahead for the third time in the match. Barcelona were later reduced to ten men when Frenkie de Jong was shown a red card and Real Madrid nearly made their numerical advantage count late on, but the crucial third goal eluded Xabi Alonso's side.
