Funny or Die founder Adam McKay sounded like a peculiar choice to direct a biting look at the financial crisis. Turns out the comic writer and director is an ideal fit to tackle the absurd and infuriating circumstances behind the credit bubble. The Big Short, based on a novel by Michael Lewis, is a load of laughs that get stuck in your throat when you realize the harm behind the insanity.
Christian Bale, Ryan Gosling, Steve Carell and Brad Pitt star as some of the guys who forecasted the recession and figured out how to profit from it. The result plays like a Wall Street caper that digs into the attitude, behavior and relentless greed in every smug, popped-collar peddler of mortgages and investments.
McKay sat down with AskMen to discuss the language Wall Street folks use to purposefully confuse the people they take advantage of. The movie has some hysterical ways to break down those terms for you. We hit up McKay to crack a few more.
