National Doughnut Day falls on the first Friday in June every year, but we'll forgive you for if you hadn't heard about it until now. And no, surprisingly this isn't a holiday invented by Dunkin' Donuts or some other company you might think would have a stake in selling donuts. It all started back during the first World War, when volunteers from the Salvation Army were sent abroad to support the soldiers. One of the ways they supported the soldiers was by baking goods - in this case donuts. The tradition continued all the way into the second World War, and National Doughnut Day was officially established in 1938.

The United States actually has more than 175 days related to different types of food, including National Iced Tea Day on June 10th, and National Fudge Day on June 16th.
