Last year's race winner takes you on a lap of the Circuit de Catalunya.
Who can be better placed to take you on a lap of the Circuit de Catalunya, scene of Sunday’s Spanish Grand Prix, than last year’s winner, Max Verstappen?
The Red Bull Racing driver proved victorious there 12 months ago in what was his debut for the team following a mid-season switch from Scuderia Torro Rosso.
Smiling standing at P1 on the starting grid a year on, Verstappen said: “It’s very nice to come back on this track once you’ve won it.”
Walking the lap, he picks out some of the key moments ahead of the race weekend, including turn four, which he describes as “a long corner so it can be quite painful”, and admits it is never a perfect corner.
For him, though, turn nine is the clear stand-out moment of the lap.
“For a driver it’s the most exciting corner,” he said. “It’s flat out with the new cars which is very enjoyable. It’s a bit of a blind corner so you have to practise to find your entry moment.”
As for turning that last corner into the finishing straight back at the 2016 race, the 19-year-old recalled: “Coming out of the last corner brings back some very good memories for me. You see the whole team hanging over the pitwall celebrating so that was a special moment.”
